If you are experiencing difficulty with your gas furnace or need your gas furnace maintained or fixed, give us a call at (925) 399-1081.

Conventional gas furnaces work by taking in cold air from the conditioned space, cleaning it with the air filter, and then warming it up with gas burners using a heat exchanger. The blower motor then drives the warm air through the ductwork of the home to the space being occupied. Gas furnaces require plenty of clearance so that they obtain sufficient ventilation. Do not store anything near to your gas furnace, or you could form a fire hazard.

Always remember — if you notice a gas leak, instantaneously vacate the home and call your local gas company immediately.

How Does a My Gas Furnace Work?

A gas furnace works with a call for heat created at a thermostat which sends a 24-volt signal to the control board at the furnace.  This starts what is called the sequence of operation.  The first step in the sequence of operation is to check all safety components in the furnace that they are in the correct position and the system is safe to run.  Once all safety is checked a signal is directed back to the board to send power to the inducer motor and pressure switch.  Once the pressure switch proves the proper vacuum in the pressure switch hose a signal is sent back to the control board once again.  Once the board sees proper voltage and all the safety and pressure switch are in the correct position it then sends voltage to the ignition source to start the gas ignition process.  The ignitor will then glow and simultaneously voltage will be sent to the gas valve to open, once the gas valve opens it will send gas to the burner tubes and the furnace will safely ignite.  The last two steps in the sequence of operation are to send a flame verification signal back to the board.  Once the board sees that the flame sensor is sensing flame it will turn the blower motor on to circulate air through the home.  The air blows the warm air off of the heat exchanger which is where the combustion and heating are taking place.  The air will circulate through the home until the thermostat reaches temp and at that point, it will satisfy the call for heat and end the sequence of operation until the home calls for heat again.
